Frequently Asked Questions About Chiropractic Treatment

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic can be defined as conservative care of the body. It is the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness without the use of prescription drugs or invasive surgery. Chiropractic uses the most modern clinical techniques such as manipulation of the spine and other joints in conjunction with physical therapy modalities to treat injuries and disease. We welcome any questions you might have regarding your care and we will strive to respond fully to your needs.

What conditions benefit from Chiropractic care?

• Low back pain
• Neck pain
• Headaches
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
• Sprains or strains
• Joint pain / bursitis / tendonitis
• Sciatica
• Arm and leg pain
• Shoulder and knee pain
• Whiplash / Auto injury
• Work injury
• Sports injury
• Nervous tension/fatigue

What is a typical visit?
Your doctor will meet with you one-on-one to discuss your personal health needs and how you can best be treated through chiropractic care. Then, a thorough examination will be performed, utilizing orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic tests.

To help evaluate your condition, an X-ray or MRI may be taken. The doctor will analyze your history, examination findings, X-ray or MRI and determine what your condition is and if you can be helped with chiropractic treatment.

If the doctor decides you will benefit from chiropractic care, you will be prescribed an individualized treatment program that will be tailored to your needs. Post treatment rehabilitation to strength and stabilize your condition is an important part of your care, therefore, an exercise program will be designed to help get you back to your active lifestyle as quickly as possible.

What is an adjustment?
An adjustment, otherwise known as spinal manipulation, is the act of moving a joint slightly beyond its’ active range of motion causing a cavitation, with its’ classic “popping sound”, in an attempt to increase the joints range of motion while decreasing adhesion formation (scar tissue).

Are adjustments painful?
Most spinal adjustments are not painful or uncomfortable. Most patients report that they feel good and free of pain almost immediately. Adjustments have no harmful or dangerous side effects.
